Right now in our house we are not helping the environment in any way at all except for the fact that we recycle and wear/ drink organic products. Right now in our house we use too much energy like we leave lights on that do not have to be on and we leave the TV on when we are not watching.
In the Waste department we are pretty good because we recycle cans and bottles but we use paper plates way too much when we should be using ceramic plates and save the trees. Also right now in our house we have a lot of old computer's that we have not disposed because we are going to send it in so it gets recycled cleanly.
In our house we waste water by taking long showers when we could be taking shorter showers instead. We also have dishwasher and washing machine, which use up a lot of water because we wash clothes a lot.
We create lots of traffic in our house because we have three cars which all have low miles per gallon. Sometimes during summer and Christmas break we are running three cars because my brother is home but a lot of times after basketball or volleyball practice we car pool with my friends who live near me.
To me sustainability means the environment is running cleanly and that people on earth are not running on oil but they are running on bio fuel. To me it also means that people on earth are living and thinking green so they are doing things that will help the environment. Sustainability's also means to me that the earth will last for a long time with humans living on it and having a balance between all ecosystems.
The first are I want to target is Water consumption because I think that my families showers are way to long and we wash clothes and dishes to much. One way our family can target this problem is take showers effectively by getting wet then turning off the water and then soaping and then finally turn the water on and rinse off. This way I can take as long as I want and I can hardly use and water. If at least my dad and I do this we can save so much water. Another way we can target water consumption is by not washing clothes as much. We can wash maybe one or two times less a week and we can save so much water this way.
The other area I am going to target is food, I have already started to more sustainable by buying organic drinks like organic acai smoothies from the market and also organic soy milk. This reduces the amount of pesticides on earth. Also a way of going green is buying organic vegetables instead of frozen veggies. Our family is starting to buy more local fresh foods like from Aloha salad, which grows their own salad, and from a local fish market. I am also trying to be more sustainable by wearing organic clothes, which is a tad, more expensive and a lot thinner then regular cotton but it is the little things that matter the most.

I'm glad your willing to part ways with your very, very long showers. I also think it's great that your starting to wear clothing made of organic cotton, maybe you can get me some!
P.S We also have to start carpooling with Trick... that'll save some energy.
Sounds like you have a well thought out plan in mind, but there is one slight inconsistency here:
You say that you use paper-plates too much, and should use washable plates more often, but then you say that you waste too much water on dishes. You can't have it both ways - find a balance between the two because there's no way to stop both, really. If you're trying to decrease water, then use paper plates more often and vice versa.
